I'm pretty new to blogging..... so you few readers out there will need to bare with me whilst i find my style!
Now I in no way claim to be an amazing painter, or even a good painter! But like many other Wargaming adepts out there... I still want my army to look great on the table top...... but i don't want to spend 4 years getting 1500 points ready! And it might sound a little sad or overtly geeky (and I'm sure plenty of you adepts out there agree) its difficult to develop a bond with unpainted model... now when i say bond... i don't mean emotional.... (or sexual) .... but painted mini's have character and the more you play with them the more character they build and develop..... no one remembers when the lonely unpainted Havoc who blew a Storm Raven out of the sky with a pot shot! But everyone remembers the last Havoc standing (you know... the one with the Red top knot and hazard lines) who tore a Storm raven from the sky with his autocannon as a last one finger salute to the loyalists scum aboard whom laid waste to so many of his brethren, before being brutally torn apart by bolter fire and returned to the warp from which he came...... Remember the model i am talking about now??? ...... I thought so!
So over the next few weeks I'd like to share with you some steps i have taken in order to get myself a playable 1500 point Chaos space marine army... that more importantly is painted and looks cool (well i think so anyways!). I will explore simple yet effective painting techniques, the importance of basing and other tools we can use throughout the process to help you create a stunning army.... as well as taking part in my own 10 man squad speed painting challenge!
And so i give you! My own home grown Chaos Warband.....
The Sons of Ruin..... fluff to follow!
First squad i finished plus first bike after testing and changing the colour scheme several times (originally bone trim... nightmare!)
Autocannon Havoc - If you haven't used them before the FW legion autocannons.... they are great (ok i might have just told you an 'untruth' there....) but they look great anyways! Even if you do need to build them submerged in boiling water whilst repeatedly swearing an oath to the false god of the Imperium of man.... hmmm maybe its a chaos thing?
Another Auto cannon Havoc. I wanted to avoid the belt feed on some of the autocannons (No no because of how difficult it is to attached) because i felt it was important to try and gain a slightly more 'chaotic' look and feel - in this example i have added an addition barrel (much like the reaper autocannons) and some spiky bits... the extra barrel was made from very small brass rods and guitar cable (we will discuss all the reasons why you SHOULD NOT be using guitar strings on another post)
More autocannon fun! this time with exhaust pipes!
Hey I know that dude with the red top knot!
Cant cause organised chaos without an aspiring Champion!
Army's (even chaos) should have a little uniformity - The Sons of Ruin have a Green warp spiral to represent there warband!
Please stay tuned for more where I will be discussing the simple painting technique used to achieve this look and also be comparing some Poly cement from different sources.
