WIP - Little bit more on Kharn

So its been a fairly busy couple of weeks for me in the real world..

I did however managed to sit down and spend a little more time on Kharn.

As you can see i have now bulked the chest plate out (as i really wasn't happy with it), cleaned the right leg up and added the plasma pistol arm.

Noticed that the plastic arm doesn't fit quite right and will get in the way of Helmet / Shoulder pad, Back pack so i'll be going back later to bulk that shoulder joint out a bit more and resolve the issue.

Any comments and feedback welcome.... Its fairly quiet round ere!

Continued - WIP Kharn the betrayer & Pro-Stuff putty

So I managed to get a little more time in on Kharn.

But first i want to tell you about a small sculpting discovery I made yesterday.

You're probably thinking 'what am I looking at here? Well I'll tell you....    I call it Pro-Stuff, now I'm sure I'm not the first person to have done this, I'm yet to read anything online about it, but what this is... Yup! You guessed it!  Green stuff mixed with Procreate! And let me tell you its amazing!

By mixing the two putty's together you are left with a pale green putty similar in consistency to green stuff, but without the stickiness...  however still tacky enough to stick to your model without the need for glue.  Being that the Procreate is is not very sticky at all, mixing it with Green stuff leaves you with something perfect in my opinion.   The Pro-Stuff mixture also absorbs the other great qualities of both the Green stuff and Procreate. Its easier to smooth and polish, easier to work into gaps and still maintains that excellent elastic quality of the Green stuff.  I'm also happy to tell you that it also sands, files, drills and carves well once cured.

So anyway! back to Kharn!

Originally I had planned on using MK4 legs as I had on previous conversion as i felt the size and shape fit well. however after searching my bitz box for hours I came up short. So i set about sculpting my own.  worth noting this is really my first ever attempt at sculpting such a large area or armour, and certainly first real attempt at sculpting something from scratch.

I started with a wire frame coming out from under the knee pads and blobbed some putty over them to make the rough shape of legs and foot (unfortunately i forgot to take a picture of that, but if you look closely in this picture you will see the left boot (on the right of the picture... just FYI) is still at this stage and the right boot is just being started..

One thing i learnt whilst doing this was to know when to walk away, so I return to finish the left boot once the right had cured.

I also added the arrow detail to each leg, with a few studs to accent one. I'm undecided if i will do back and add trim to the leg armour or just leave as is...

I also thought i have a go at making my own Gore child as i wanted this Kharn to have something a little
meatier! Need to work out how to add the teeth, then I'll go back for the detail.

Right that's all for now!

Continued - WIP Kharn the betrayer

So i managed to get a little bit more time in on Kharn.

Decided i could in fact make him look more like Kharn should, as such i have removed all of the chest detail with an X-acto blade, some files and lots of patience.

I've since started to build up the detail similar to the original Kharn model.   I've added the chest cables and centre piece.  I've also fleshed out the left shoulder socket in preparation for the classic Kharn bare arm.  Right knee pad is now sporting a Skull.

Sorry for the rubbish pictures again

C&C welcomed

WIP Kharn the betrayer

So i recently finished a small World eaters champion conversion using the Exulted champion of Khorne Warhammer fantasy model.

Only when finished said conversion did i notice that it could be a Kharn conversion / counts as Kharn  (I guess the Chain Axe and Plasma pistol were enough to sell him as Kharn).

Here are a few pictures of the conversion / Paint job.

So anyway.... this got me a'thinking, being as it is rather close to Kharn...... Just how much more like Kharn can this model be?

So got myself another Khrone champion model and last night started hacking away at it. Here's initial progress.

I also decided i wanted to have a go at sculpting my own Kharn helm.  now this is my first attempt EVER at trying to sculpt a helm...  whilst i personally think its pretty good for a first attempt... its a long way off something i would actually put on a mini.

I'm going to strip the green stuff off tonight and have another go at it.

More on this soon!

Return of the adept

Hi all,
So this blogg post is long overdue!   Somewhere between here and the real world I’ve found myself lost for a number of months and alas…. Hobby time has taken the brunt of it.

I know I promised some mad comparisons of different types of poly cements and to tell you the truth I did the experiments, filmed them…. And then forgot about it…    but just so you know… the Revel won!

So most of the little hobby time I have had of late has been spent building a number of conversions and working on my sculpting.   I’ve recently discovered a new putty pro create (Ordered mine from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Procreate-Putty-Profesional-and-Sculptors-Putty-Warhammer-/281150993451?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item4175e7b42b) You can clearly tell it apart from the Green stuff due to the fact that its grey!  Very much so….

So having had a few chances now to use the Pro create putty I can confirm that it’s wonderful stuff!   Slightly easier to work than Green stuff (better for detail), cures a little faster than Green stuff and cures much harder (oh er!!).  But before you run and throw away your Green stuff…   I can already see the benefit in having access to both.    Procreate as I have said is great for fine detail or doing small quick jobs.   However Green stuff is still great for things like cables etc… basically anything that requires the putty to be a little bit tougher  (So things you need to handle more) or things you don’t want curing as fast (cables, armour plates & the base for scratch built areas).   I will certainly be using Procreate for majority of my work, but I won’t retire the Green stuff yet!

Another key difference between the two worth noting is that pro create doesn't have that ‘stickiness’ that most Green stuff users are all too familiar with. Don’t get me wrong you still need to lube up your tools but in no way to the same degree as you would when working with Green stuff. Now this probably sounds like a great benefit… and in many situations it is.  However when you are sculpting directly onto a surface (or onto the model) the pro create has a tendency to slip away or move….  More often or not this is resolved by either physically sticking the putty to the model, I use a small (like tiny tiny) dab of super glue to do this, or sculpt the detail, trying your best to apply pressure to squeeze the putty into the groves and then attach with super glue (I’ve even tried sealing with super glue) once cured.

Anyway, enough rambling here is my most recent model -  Dark Mechanicus Magos
