Hi all,
So this blogg post is long overdue! Somewhere between here and the real world I’ve
found myself lost for a number of months and alas…. Hobby time has taken the
brunt of it.
I know I promised some mad comparisons of different types of
poly cements and to tell you the truth I did the experiments, filmed them…. And
then forgot about it… but just so you
know… the Revel won!
So most of the little hobby time I have had of late has been
spent building a number of conversions and working on my sculpting. I’ve recently discovered a new putty pro
create (Ordered mine from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Procreate-Putty-Profesional-and-Sculptors-Putty-Warhammer-/281150993451?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item4175e7b42b)
You can clearly tell it apart from the Green stuff due to the fact that its
grey! Very much so….
So having had a few chances now to use the Pro create putty I
can confirm that it’s wonderful stuff!
Slightly easier to work than Green stuff (better for detail), cures a
little faster than Green stuff and cures much harder (oh er!!). But before you run and throw away your Green
stuff… I can already see the benefit in
having access to both. Procreate as I
have said is great for fine detail or doing small quick jobs. However Green stuff is still great for
things like cables etc… basically anything that requires the putty to be a
little bit tougher (So things you need
to handle more) or things you don’t want curing as fast (cables, armour plates
& the base for scratch built areas).
I will certainly be using Procreate for majority of my work, but I won’t
retire the Green stuff yet!
Another key difference between the two worth noting is that
pro create doesn't have that ‘stickiness’ that most Green stuff users are all
too familiar with. Don’t get me wrong you still need to lube up your tools but
in no way to the same degree as you would when working with Green stuff. Now
this probably sounds like a great benefit… and in many situations it is. However when you are sculpting directly onto
a surface (or onto the model) the pro create has a tendency to slip away or
move…. More often or not this is
resolved by either physically sticking the putty to the model, I use a small
(like tiny tiny) dab of super glue to do this, or sculpt the detail, trying
your best to apply pressure to squeeze the putty into the groves and then
attach with super glue (I’ve even tried sealing with super glue) once cured.
Anyway, enough rambling here is my most recent model - Dark Mechanicus Magos
